Senior Isaiah Ackerman scored 30 points, and the Aptos High boys basketball team beat Everett Alvarez 61-40 in the first round of the 76th annual Carmel Classic on Thursday.

Ackerman scored 20 points in the first half and the Mariners jumped out to a 35-18 lead at the half.

Ryan Solorio scored nine points for Aptos and teammate Owen Warmerdam had seven blocked shots.

Aptos (5-2) plays Carmel (2-2), the defending Central Coast Section Division IV champion, in the semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m.

At Carmel 71, Scotts Valley 55 >> The Falcons rallied from a 17-point deficit early and took the lead by the end of third quarter, but ran out of gas in their opener at the 76th annual Carmel Classic on Thursday.

Center Jacob Sanders scored 18 points for the Falcons, and teammate Alex Burgos scored 11 points.

Guard Hudson Rutherford made four 3-pointers and scored 24 points for the Padres (2-2). Senior guard Warren Blut scored 21 points.

Scotts Valley (3-5) plays Alvarez in the consolation semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m.

At Stevenson 72, SLV 42 >> Senior Noah Steiger scored 13 points in the Cougars’ nonleague loss on Thursday.

The Cougars (4-4) trailed 34-18 at the half.

Junior Cooper Olin had 29 points, seven rebounds, and five steals for the Pirates (2-3). He made five 3-pointers.

SLV hosts Westmont (6-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Marina 61, at Harbor 45 >> Malik Wooden scored 14 points in the short-handed Pirates’ nonleague loss Thursday.

Five of Harbor’s eight players were either freshmen or sophomores, and senior Miles Dix suffered an injury in third quarter and didn’t return. Junior Andres Martinez was sidelined by an injury sustained earlier in the week.

Sophomore Isaac Viegas added eight points for the Pirates.

Harbor (3-3) hosts King City (1-5) on Friday at 6 p.m.

Girls basketball

At SLV 46, Seaside 25 >> Junior forward Poppy Owens had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and the Cougars won their nonleague game Thursday.

Freshman point guard Taylor Kievlan had 10 points and five assists for SLV. Senior guard Violet Derr had seven points and eight rebounds.

The Cougars held the Spartans to five points in the second half.

SLV (8-5) hosts Soquel (3-2) in the teams’ SCCAL opener on Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m.

At Castilleja 45, Harbor 18 >> The Pirates lost their nonleague game in Palo Alto on Thursday.

The Gators (7-1) jumped out to a 20-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Harbor (1-7) hosts King City (0-7) on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Boys soccer

At Santa Cruz 13, Anzar 1 >> Nick Garza, Desmond Boutelle, Evan Richter, Cutler Bauscher, and Simon Davis each scored a brace in the Cardinals’ nonleague win Thursday.

Stefan Ciesiolkiewics, Angel Esqueda, and Rodolfo Cardona also scored for Santa Cruz.

Cardinals goalie Stephen Yee made one save.

Santa Cruz (3-4-0) plays Live Oak (0-5-1) to wrap up play in the 30th Sunnyvale Cup at Monta Vista High in Cupertino on Saturday at noon.

At Harbor 3, Seaside 0 >> Phinn Hilton had a goal and an assist in the Pirates’ nonleague win Thursday.

Sai Nguyen and Danny Garcia also scored goals. Alex Aparicio had an assist.

Goalie Damian Escalante made two saves for the Pirates (7-1-1), who recorded their fifth straight shutout.

Harbor plays at Archbishop Riordan (2-2-0) in San Francisco on Jan. 4 at 12:45 p.m.

Girls soccer

Pacific Collegiate 1, at SLV 0 >> The Pumas played down one player for the first 18 minutes, but were still able to secure the nonleague win Thursday.

Amelie Pan scored the decisive on a free kick with three minutes remaining.

Pan played keeper for the first 22 minutes and made three saves. Farrin O’Hara took over for Pan and made three saves.

PCS (2-2-0) hosts MVC (3-2-1) to open PCAL Mission Division play on Jan. 6 at 5:45 p.m.

SLV (1-5-0), which had multiple shots hit the crossbar, opens SCCAL play against visiting Soquel (3-1-1) on Jan. 14 at 3:30 p.m.

At Los Gatos 3, Aptos 1 >> Isabella Hartnett scored on a rebound in the 69th minute, but the Mariners lost their nonleague match Thursday.

The Wildcats improved to 3-2-3.

Goalkeeper Evelyn Pini made eight saves for the Mariners (2-2-0), who host Mountain View (4-1) on Dec. 31 at 10 a.m.

At Hollister 2, Aptos 1 >> Isabella Hartnett scored on a pass from Gigi Zuniga in the 78th minute ot the Mariners’ nonleague loss Monday.
