CUPERTINO >> A small plane gave commuters a drive they won’t forget after landing on a South Bay highway Monday morning, authorities said.
It all happened about 7 a.m., when the plane came down on its wheels in the southbound lanes of state Highway 85 just south of the Stevens Creek Boulevard exit, according to a statement posted on social media from the California Highway Patrol’s San Jose division.
No one was hurt in the emergency landing, the CHP said. The incident did close down lanes on the highway.
“(The) biggest danger,” witness Ian Rogers said in an email to this organization, “is rubber-neckers crashing into each other.”
All lanes of the highway finally were opened at 1:20 p.m., after the CHP shut them all down about 11 a.m. to work on moving the plane.
The plane was forced to land when the pilot realized he was running out of fuel, according to CHP spokesperson Ross Lee.
