San Bernardino
Three staff members of the San Bernardino City Unified School District are among No Kid Hungry California’s six 2024 Hunger Hero Awards honorees.
They are Irma Mondragon, kitchen operator at Bing Wong Elementary School; Kathleen Delgado, dance teacher at Barton Elementary School; and Glen Woods, the district’s nutrition services supervisor.
Mondragon spearheaded the introduction of breakfast in the classroom at Bing Wong Elementary, leading to a significant increase in student breakfast participation, according to No Kid Hungry California’s website.
Delgado also focuses on providing breakfast to students. Carrying two totes, she delivers breakfast to the classroom door by 8:45 a.m., and after breakfast she collects the totes and returns them to the cafeteria.
Woods, who has served 19 years as the district’s nutrition services supervisor, has overseen the implementation of breakfast in the classroom at six sites.
No Kid Hungry California’s other three 2024 Hunger Hero Awards went to Nailly Salib of the Fontana Unified School District and Brenda Barker Andrews and Desiree Hernandez, both of the Morongo Unified School District.
