Filmore Stanley Rodich, MD, died on December 11, 2024, his family by his side. He was 92. Born in Minneapolis, Fil was raised by his mother Sophie and sister Gloria, his father, Nathan, having died when Fil was 8 years old. Fil earned his BS and MD from the University of Minnesota, where he met his beloved wife of 67 years, Judith Ann (Katz) Rodich. They were married in 1955. After honeymooning in Chicago, Fil and Judy moved to Staten Island, New York, where Fil interned with the U.S. Public Health Service, then to Rochester, Minnesota, where Fil completed his training in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic, and then to Travis Air Force Base in California, where Fil served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. After returning briefly to Minnesota with their son, Norman, who was born at Travis, they settled in Marin County, California, where Fil joined Marin Medical Group in Terra Linda. In 1964, they bought a home in Lucas Valley where they welcomed their second son, Jeremy, and daughter, Gail, and lived for the remainder of their lives. Fil served as President of the Staff at Marin General Hospital from 1981 to 1983 and volunteered with RotoCare, a free medical clinic. After retiring from private practice in 2003, Fil joined the medical staff at Villa Marin in San Rafael. He also enjoyed working as a certified FAA Medical Examiner and continued to see pilots until the pandemic started in 2020. Fil and Judy loved travel, opera, and classical music. Fil also loved hiking in the hills of Lucas Valley and grilling and cooking for family and friends. As a boy, Fil attended Talmud Torah in Minneapolis, of which his grandfather, Morris Rodich, was a founder, and recalled how his Jewish education positively influenced his life. Fil was a member of the North High boxing team and the choir and voted “Most Poised” by his senior class. He and Judy were proud Americans and their US flag flies in front of their house to this day. Fil will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor, love for his family and friends, service to his country and community, skill as a diagnostician, passion and gift for healing, and the lives he saved. Fil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Judith A. Rodich, his parents, Nathan and Sophie Rodich, and sister Gloria Segal. He is survived by his children, Norman J. (Susan) Rodich, Jeremy D. Rodich, and Gail S. Rodich MD, and granddaughter, Kalia Ann Rodich. A celebration of Fil’s life will be held on March 2, 2025, at Temple Rodef Sholom. Donations in Fil’s memory may be made to RotoCare Bay Area (https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1443289).
