It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kathleen (Kathie) Turi (née Karnes) on February 18, 2025, in Corte Madera, California. She was 78.
Kathie was born on April 5, 1946, in San Mateo, California.
She was the youngest of the four Karnes siblings.
When she was five, the family moved to Marin.
She was among the first freshman classes at a brand-new Redwood High School.
In 1964, when she was 18, Kathie married her high school sweetheart, Tom Rogers. His sudden passing, four years later, left her unmoored. She moved to Southern California to help raise her sister Dixie’s six children and to work as adental assistant. She lived in San Diego for several years before returning to Marin in 1976, where she met her second husband, Don. They married in 1988 and made their home in Larkspur. They had no children but shared their lives with many rescue dogs.
Kathie and Don enjoyed many years to traveling to Hawaii and Mexico. They enjoyed fishing on their trips and also fishing all around the Bay Area.
Kathie is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Turi, her sisters, Jackie and Dixie, and her brother, Tom.
She was the last surviving member of the Karnes siblings.
Since Don's passing in 2022, Kathie had been residing in Corte Madera with her niece, Jennifer.
Kathie is survived by seven nieces and nephews. She shared a special bond with her niece, Jennifer. She took delight in being a surrogate grandmother to Jennifer’s two children.
