Just like that, we’re getting ready to wrap up league play. Time doesn’t just fly, it’s a 105 mph line drive off the bat.

The regular season’s penultimate Macomb County baseball rankings are here. Remember that all numbers are sourced by each respective teams’ GameChangers (aside from the No. 8 team, who doesn’t have a public profile) and that only teams within the borders of Macomb County are eligible, and all records are up to date through May 11.

Sorry, Grosse Pointe South — you’ve been great this season.

Without further ado, the latest Macomb County baseball rankings:

1. Dakota Cougars (21-6, up two)

My bad, y’all — since ranking the Cougars as the No. 3 team in Macomb County, they’ve gone on to run rule Stevenson thrice, beat Brother Rice, beat Lake Orion twice and sweep Eisenhower.

They’ll have a chance to lock up the Macomb Area Conference Red this week.

2. De La Salle Pilots (20-5, down one)

Steady as it gets, De La Salle has continued to be a force in the CHSL, winning their season series’ over Brother Rice, U of D and St. John’s Jesuit since the last time we ranked them. They also picked up wins over Divine Child and Detroit Country Day.3. Stevenson Titans (18-5, down two)

After getting back up to No. 2 in our rankings last time, the Titans were quickly humbled with three-straight beating at the hands of Dakota. Since then, they’ve won five-straight, sweeping a three-game set over Ford and then a Saturday doubleheader over Stoney Creek.

4. Lutheran North Mustangs (18-3, up one)

The Mustangs are back in the hunt for a Catholic League championship after advancing to the semifinals with a win over Riverview Gabriel Richard.

They’re absolutely sizzling — wins over Liggett, Lumen Christi (2x), Almont, Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard (2x) and RGR (3x) have helped them compile 14 victories in their last 15 games.

5. Chippewa Valley Big Reds (15-9-1, up one)

The Big Reds wrapped up their most impressive MAC Red series of the decade (so far) when they swept Romeo in three games, getting them in position to play for second-place in one of the Mitten’s most competitive leagues in just their first season back in it.

If they were playing like that more, they’d be even higher on this list, but they also sport losses to Eisenhower, Lake Shore and Fraser in recent weeks — good teams, no doubt, but not quite on Chip’s level.

6. Romeo Bulldogs (20-7, down two)

Don’t consider this a demotion for the Bulldogs — in fact, one could argue that they’re still a top three or four team in Macomb County. The aforementioned sweep at the hands of Chippewa Valley just sees them drop — for now. The bright side is that those losses came by an average of less than 3 runs per game.

They’ll have a chance to reclaim a higher spot in these rankings during their upcoming series against Stevenson, especially after sweeping Lake Orion in a doubleheader this past weekend.

7. Anchor Bay Tars (12-7, no change)

After a rough start to the season, Anchor Bay reminded us who they are by taking 2-of-3 from Grosse Pointe South, one of the best teams not only in Division 1 but in all of Michigan. They followed it up by sweeping a three-game set with scrappy Utica.

They’re playing for a MAC White title this week against St. Clair.

8. Richmond Blue Devils (17-4, no change)

Don’t let the Devils get hot!

After dropping two to rival Armada in mid-April, Richmond has bounced back to win 11 of their last 12 contests, allowing three runs or fewer in all but three of those games going into a Tuesday, May 13 doubleheader against first-place North Branch. If they can take both from the Broncos, Richmond can solidify itself as BWAC champs, and re-announce their presence among the best in Division 2.

9. Lakeview Huskies (16-5, up one)

After dropping three of their first five contests, the Huskies have been one of the winningest teams in Macomb County, going 14-2 since April 7. They’re undefeated in the MAC Blue up to this point, and they even split a Saturday doubleheader against Romeo, proving that they’re capable of competing with — and beating — teams in the upper MAC divisions.

10. Ford Falcons (12-11, no change)

Ford’s record isn’t necessarily an indicator of the talent on the team. In fact, outside of the MAC Red, they’re 10-1 and won their second-straight Falcons Invitational at Birmingham Groves, where they beat the namesake Falcons and then Rochester behind a dazzling performance by Hunter Whitt.

They hope the bumps and bruises they’ve taken in Red play will have them ready come districts time.
