Marsha Diane Steinhauser, 74, a beloved teacher, devoted mother, and doting “Grammy,” passed away on Saturday, January, 11th, 2025 surrounded by the family she so deeply cherished.
Born on September 1, 1950, in Peoria, Illinois, to Norma and Robert Joos. Marsha grew up with a heart full of ambition and a mind set on inspiring others.
Her journey began at Richwoods High School (Class of 1968). Marsha’s leadership skills emerged early, including her role as a lifeguard at Wedgwood Swim and Tennis Club. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Illinois University (Class of 1972) and later, her master’s degree from Cal State San Bernardino. However, her true education came from the thousands of students she mentored, motivated, and molded.
Marsha met and married Stephen Steinhauser in 1970, and together they raised three children—Amy, Adam, and Jillian—moving across the country before ultimately planting roots in Alta Loma, California.
For over 25 years, Marsha ruled the classroom with heart, humor, and high expectations. Teaching at Deer Canyon and Hermosa Elementary, within the Alta Loma School District. Her foundation as an educator became a source of inspiration; one that pushed, encouraged, and celebrated her student’s goals and successes in education and their personal endeavors. Parents didn’t just hope for “Mrs. Steinhauser’s class”, they fought for it. Former students returned decades later, hoping their own children would be lucky enough to experience the magic of her teaching.
After retiring in 2014, she embraced the title of Grammy with unstoppable devotion. In just three years, she welcomed six grandchildren—Evan, Ryan, Camden, Sadie, Sydney, and Ava—and in them, she found her greatest joy. Whether babysitting, tutoring, or correcting their grammar, she poured her soul into her grandkids, creating a legacy of love that will ripple through generations.
Marsha was a woman of hearts, musicals, and moments that moved the soul. She devoured books, adored ‘Days of Our Lives’, and believed in the power of a well-placed exclamation point. She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Delaney. She is survived by her children, Amy, Adam and Jillian (Chad), her beloved grandchildren, and a lifetime of students who will never forget her.
A celebration of Marsha’s life will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Hillside Community Church. In honor of her lifelong passion for learning, the family encourages donations to a local school, library, or children’s program. While the final bell may have rung, her lessons, her laughter, and her love will echo forever.
