Unable to find the net for the second straight game, Monterey Bay FC is searching for answers after Saturday’s 2-0 home loss to unbeaten Louisville City FC at Cardinale Stadium.

It was the first home loss of the season in the United Soccer League Championship for the Union, who have slipped into a tie for third in the Western Conference at 4-4-4.

Louisville City FC is the only unbeaten team left in the USL at 6-0-4, sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference. It has the longest current unbeaten streak in the league.

Since a 4-1-2 start to the season that vaulted the Union into first place for two full weeks for the first time in franchise history, they are winless in their past six matches.

Despite a 0-3-3 mark, Monterey Bay FC is just three points out of second place and five behind conference leader New Mexico United.

During the Union’s winless streak, they have mustered just two goals, having been shut out four times, with two of those being ties to produce at least a point.

Monterey Bay FC won’t have too much time to iron out its deficiencies on offense as it will host Spokane Velocity FC on Wednesday in the newly created USL Jägermeister Cup. It will return to USL play next Saturday, hosting Orange County.Despite controlling possession of the ball on the pitch, the Union manufactured just two shots, while Louisville City attempted 10.

USL saves leader Nico Campuzano was credited with eight saves between the pipes for the Union, giving him a league-leading 53 saves.

During a franchise record-tying six-game unbeaten streak, the Union outscored the opposition 11-4. During their six-game winless streak, they’ve been outscored 7-2.

Louisville is 3-1-0 lifetime against Monterey Bay FC. It is 2-0-0 at Cardinale Stadium.
