FRCC shifts to remote work, classes; state offices to open late

In advance of an expected winter storm, Front Range Community College announced Tuesday evening that its Longmont and Westminster campuses will be closed for in-person services today.

FRCC employees and students will shift to remote work and learning for all classes, school spokeswoman Jessica Peterson said in an email.

The school’s Fort Collins campus will remain open.

As of presstime, the University of Colorado Boulder and Boulder Valley, St. Vrain Valley and Thompson school districts had not announced weather-related plan for today.

State government offices in Denver and surrounding suburban counties will open to the public at 9 a.m. today due to extreme weather conditions, according to a news release sent Tuesday evening. There will be a one-hour delay in scheduled start times for state employees to arrive to work safely.

State facilities essential to public health and safety will maintain regular operating schedules and “essential personnel” must report to work at their normal scheduled time.

A winter weather advisory is posted for the metro area started at midnight Wednesday and is expected to last through noon Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The metro area, including Denver, Boulder, western Adams and Arapahoe counties, will see snow accumulation between 4 and 8 inches by tonight.

DU investigating antisemitic vandalism in campus dorms

The University of Denver is investigating several recent acts of antisemitic vandalism in campus residence halls, including what a Jewish student group described as the gluing of pork products onto the door to a student’s dorm room.

DU officials said in a message to the campus that a student living in Johnson-McFarlane Hall found their door vandalized. Two residents of Nagel Hall reported their doors were vandalized and religious items were removed.

Antisemitic incidents have been on the rise in Colorado, with the Anti-Defamation League’s Audit of Antisemitic Incidents 2021 recording 92 reports of antisemitic incidents in the state in 2021.
