The annual Run Drugs Out of Town 5K Run/Walk fundraiser held by FAN will be held next month at a new location again — Center Campus of Macomb Community College in Clinton Township.
“The organization is excited that this year’s 5K will be happening at Macomb Community College, which is a more centralized, easy-to-access location,” said officials at Face Addiction Now (formerly Families Against Narcotics).
The entire course for the June 21 walk/run will be on campus at 44575 Garfield Road so no major roads will have to be closed, officials said.
The FAN fundraiser, one of the most popular run/walk events each year in the county, for years was held in Fraser, where the anti-drug organization was founded in 2007, before it was moved last year to Jimmy John’s Field in Utica.
The event, which typically draws close to 2,000 participants, helps increase awareness of addiction and raise money to fund the many programs FAN provides to individuals and families who have been affected by the disease, officials said.
“Every year at Run Drugs Out of Town, I find myself overwhelmed — not just by the incredible turnout, but by the stories,” FAN Executive Director Linda Davis said in the release. “Families reuniting, healing, and creating memories with their children. Through the years, we’ve celebrated countless victories, but we’ve also lost people who were near and dear to our hearts. That’s why this run matters. It’s our chance to come together, to remember, and to keep fighting and push for change.”
Run Drugs Out of Town participants will run or walk the 5K either individually or as a team.
All registered runners and walkers will receive medals, with the top three finishing runners in multiple age groups getting gold, silver, and bronze medals. FAN will also give recognition to the top fundraising team, top fundraising individual and largest team.
After the race, there will be a gathering featuring free food, refreshments and activities, including a Detroit Institute of Arts activities table.
