More than 50 years after it was launched in Huntington Beach, Jan’s Health Bar has expanded outside Orange County for the first time with a location in Long Beach .
The new outpost of the health-oriented eatery, which is known for its smoothies, sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps and bowls, opened Nov. 15 in an 1,800-square foot space at 6232 E. Pacific Coast Highway about a mile from Cal State Long Beach.
The new restaurant marks the chain’s seventh location. Other stores include two in Huntington Beach and in Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Corona del Mar and Irvine.
“Long Beach has always been close to my heart; it’s been a second home to me, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring Jan’s Health Bar to this community,” said Poppy Holguin, owner of Jan’s Health Bar and an alumna of Cal State Long Beach, in a release.
“We’ve been intentional about our expansion and sought communities whose values align with and will benefit from our mission: to make healthy food accessible and approachable,” the statement continued.
Jan’s Health Bar started in 1972 as a pop-up inside a surf shop. According to the company’s website, Holguin’s first job was at the Huntington Beach restaurant while she attended Huntington Beach High School. She purchased the eatery from original owner Jan Gaffney in 2010.
According to the release, there are plans to open more restaurants within the next year in Los Angeles and San Diego.
