A local man is accused of kicking a pregnant woman several times in the stomach, according to officials who say she now won’t be able to carry her unborn child to full term.

Randolph man Dana Young, 33, faces numerous assault charges for allegedly knocking a pregnant woman to the ground and kicking her in the stomach.

Young was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery in violation of a restraining order, and assault and battery on a pregnant victim.

Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said the incident was not a random attack, and that additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.

“The allegations here are shocking in their brutality and violence,” Hayden said in a statement. “We’ll provide this victim with all the help and support she needs as the case moves forward, but our first thoughts are with her health and the health of her unborn child.”

The victim, 23, told police that she was walking along Boston’s Winthrop Street after getting off an MBTA bus when Young approached her from behind and slapped her across the head, knocking her to the ground.

Young then allegedly kicked her several times in the stomach and then fled toward Blue Hill Avenue.

The woman was 17 weeks pregnant at the time of the attack.

She refused medical treatment immediately after the assault, but the next day visited Tufts Medical Center out of concern for her unborn child.

Doctors told her that she would not be able to carry the child to full term, and that the child may suffer brain damage due to ingesting blood because of the kicks to her stomach.

The judge at Young’s arraignment revoked his bail on an earlier case, and ordered Young held for at least 60 days.

The judge set $2,000 bail on the new charges, and ordered Young to have no contact with the victim if he is released.

Young is scheduled to return to court June 3 for a pre-trial hearing.
