Ted Nugent will return this summer to a concert venue in Sterling Heights — two years after he hinted he may be retiring from live gigs.

The Motor City Madman celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of his rock masterpiece “Stranglehold” when he performs Sunday, Aug. 31 at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.

Still rocking at age 76, Nugent last week defended his decision to return to live shows following his Adios Mofos farewell tour in 2023.

“I never used the word retire,” he said to Sirius XM’s Eddie Trunk. “A lot of people (say), ‘How come you’re gonna play again? You said you were gonna retire.’ I’ve never used the ‘R’ word. I made it quite clear that I still crave to play.”

Nugent, the husband of Macomb County fitness instructor Shemane Nugent, got his start with the Amboy Dukes in the 1960s. He went on to launch a solo career that spawned guitar-driven hits such as “Cat Scratch Fever,” Stranglehold” and “Great White Buffalo.”

This summer, he will stick close to his home in Sunrize Acres near Jackson as he has shows scheduled in the Lexington Village Theatre, Temple Theatre in Saginaw, STIX in Ludington and at Warner Vineyards in Paw Paw.

In recent years, he MAGA-rocker has become known for his conservative political views concerning the Second Amendment and gun rights. He has supported and campaigned for President Donald Trump.

Opening the show at MLA will be Tommy’s RockTrip, featuring renowned rock drummer Tommy Clufetos from Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper and others.

Tommy’s RockTrip’s full-length album, “Beat Up By Rock n’ Roll,” is now available.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14 at 313Presents.com, LiveNation.com, TedNugent.com and Ticketmaster.com.
