Resident of San Jose

Richard Morgan passed away October 30, 2024, surrounded by his three children as he fought back infections and other complications. He was amazingly strong through the end after successfully recovering from a bad fall and brain surgery. He was bigger than life, and had awit and personality to match.

He was born inSan Jose, CA on December 14, 1938 to the late Isabel (Malaguerra) and Melvin “Mickey” Morgan, was the youngest of 2 children, and is predeceased in death by his sister Roberta (Morgan) Schaeffer.

He grew up in San Jose, attending Lincoln High School, where he was inducted into the Lincoln Hall of Fame.

He continued his football career at San Jose City College, where he was a Junior College All-American, and Adams State University in Colorado. He married and started a family back in CA and began a long, serial entrepreneurial career. Starting with a successful decorative rock and landscape supply business, a car wash, a fine men’s clothing store, two t-shirt stores, and finally a scrap metal business he ran through its sale and his retirement.

An avid golfer, he was one of the 400 founding members of the Almaden Golf and Country Club in 1969 and continued playing golf at area public courses nearly once per week all the way up through his accident. He loved the local sports scene, in particular the 49ers, Warriors, and Stanford women’s basketball, and of course the Lincoln Lions, where he rarely missed attending a Big Bone game with his old gang. Though his favorite sporting events were that of his grandchildren where he was a regular spectator for whatever the sport was for all of them.

Whether it was running a business, golfing, skiing, riding his Harley, or spending time with his family, he lived life to its fullest.

He is survived by his three children, Maureen, Michael (Karen), and Steven (Trish); his grandchildren David (Kandee), Richard, Matthew, Daniel (Adriana), Rachel, Ryan (Christine), Nikki, Anna, and Nate; and his great-grandchildren Eve, Mia, Felix, Liam, Roman, Sybil, and asoon to be baby girl Morgan, all of whom will miss him very much. We were so very lucky to have him for as long as we did.
