Michigan cornerback Will Johnson said it was difficult watching the Ohio State game from home but was overjoyed by the Wolverines’ upset.

Johnson, an All-American in 2023 who missed half of this season with turf toe, hosted the second Michigan football toy drive in partnership with Champions Circle on Saturday at Somerset Collection surrounded by a number of his teammates. Former Michigan running back Blake Corum was the host of last year’s event.

“It was really tough (missing the game), Johnson said Saturday. “There were a lot of plays on that field I feel I could have made if I was out there and help the team, but I just wasn’t the best option because I wasn’t the healthiest. That’s why I had to sit out.”

Johnson, who this week declared for the NFL Draft, played in six games this season and had 14 tackles and two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns. Johnson set the Michigan career record with three pick-sixes in his career. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media vote and honorable mention from the coaches this year.

He is No. 2 on ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper’s Big Board. He did not allow a touchdown in coverage for the second straight season (503 total coverage snaps) according to Pro Football Focus.

Johnson and teammate Semaj Morgan will deliver the toys to kids in Detroit on Dec. 22.
