


Joel Embiid will miss the rest of the season, with the Philadelphia 76ers saying Friday he is “medically unable to play” and will focus on treatment and rehabilitation of his left knee.
Embiid was already set to miss his 40th game of the season today when the 76ers host Golden State. But the 76ers said there will be no more games for the star center in 2024-25.
“The Philadelphia 76ers and Joel Embiid have been consulting with top specialists regarding ongoing issues with his left knee. After further evaluation, it has been determined that he is medically unable to play and will miss the remainder of the season to focus on treatment and rehabilitation,” the team said in a statement.
One of the preseason favorites to contend for an NBA title, the Sixers take a nine-game losing streak into today’s game.
Embiid hasn’t played since he was benched for ineffectiveness in the fourth quarter of a loss last Saturday to Brooklyn.
The 76ers are 8-11 with Embiid this season; 12-27 without him.
Embiid has been hobbled by injuries all season, and served a three-game suspension for shoving a media member. He’s averaged 23.8 points — he averaged at least 30 and won two scoring titles the last three seasons.
Nuggets 134, Pistons 119: Nikola Jokic had 23 points, 17 rebounds and 15 assists, Jamal Murray scored 31 points, and Denver ended host Detroit’s eight-game winning streak Friday night.
Michael Porter Jr. scored 28 points for Denver, which has won 11 of its last 13 games.
Malik Beasley had 16 points as Detroit’s sixth man, but the Pistons’ starters were outscored 113-54.
Cavaliers 123, Celtics 116: Donovan Mitchell scored 41 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to help Cleveland rally from 22 points down and win at Boston.
Darius Garland added 20 points and seven assists. and Evan Mobley finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds as Cleveland split the four-game season series.
The Celtics’ Jayson Tatum had 46 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists. Jaylen Brown added 37 points.
Boston sprinted out to a 25-3 lead. But the Cavs responded, going on a 41-22 run to get back into the game.
Thunder 135, Hawks 119: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 31 points and visiting Oklahoma City continued its dominance of the Eastern Conference by beating Atlanta.
Luguentz Dort and Jalen Williams each scored 20 points for the Thunder, who improved to 21-1 against the Eastern Conference.
Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu had 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Knicks 114, Grizzlies 113: OG Anunoby made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 5.3 seconds left and had 19 points as New York won at Memphis.
The Grizzlies had the last possession, but Ja Morant’s layup try rolled off the front of the rim, and a tip by Santi Aldama was off the mark.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 23 points and six assists.
Morant had 25 points and seven assists. Desmond Bane finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Trail Blazers 121, Nets 102: Shaedon Sharpe scored 25 points, Dalano Banton had 14 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, and Portland cruised to a road victory over Brooklyn to extend its winning streak to four games.
Heat 125, Pacers 120: Davion Mitchell’s 3-pointer broke a tie with 43.8 seconds left, Tyler Herro scored 29 points and Miami won at home over Indiana.
