Softball season in Macomb County is here!
As area teams gear up for the grind and set their eyes on the prize, we’re putting the spotlight on 25 of the best players in the area for the coming campaign.
After the top 10, the list is not in a particular order.
1. Kiley Phelan, junior, Dakota. A Central Michigan commit, Phelan is a returning all-stater who hit .445 with a monster 1.148 OPS. She smacked five home runs and drove in 31 RBIs.
2. Gabby Lewis, sophomore, Warren Woods Tower. Lewis returns an absurd .538 batting average from her freshman season, which earned her all-state honors.
3. Katie Shuboy, senior, Richmond. The future Ferris State Bulldog has a chance to be the top hurler in the county this season — just like she was in 2024 en route to an all-state nod.
4. Hailey McDonald, junior, Anchor Bay. McDonald, also a hooper for the Tars, is already committed to continuing her career at Oakland. Her sister, Ashley — also a top player — is a Saginaw Valley commit.
5. Jenna Walters, senior, Ford. The UM-Dearborn commit earned about every postseason award one can get last season, and with a 1.04 ERA — a new program record — it’s not hard to see why.
6. Jenna Higgins, senior, Dakota. Higgins is committed to join former Dakota coach Dan Vitale at Detroit Mercy after her time at Dakota comes to an end.
7. Sara Wilking, senior, Regina. A four-year varsity player and multi-sport athlete, Wilking has been part of Regina’s rotation for the last several years and slots right back in this season and figures to be a big part of the offense to boot.
8. Frankie Goodrich, junior, Chippewa Valley. Also a star on the volleyball court for the Big Reds, Goodrich was an all-county pick as a sophomore and has started to see her recruiting take an uptick on the diamond.
9. Ashley Stafford, senior, Richmond. Stafford was one of the county’s top catchers and her Division 2 all-state status backs that up. She’ll remain a Blue Devil in college with Lawrence Tech.
10. Atiana Guzman, junior, Warren Woods Tower. A shortstop and leadoff hitter, Guzman hit .490 last season and was a problem for catchers whenever she got on the basepaths.
