The Knicks were locked into the No. 3 seed in the East during the game when the Indiana Pacers, resting all five starters, were routed by the Orlando Magic to end their hopes of passing New York.
But no matter where the Knicks finished, they look a step below the teams above them. The top-seeded Cavaliers completed a four-game sweep, just as the No. 2 Boston Celtics did with their overtime victory at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
The Cavaliers played without All-Star Donovan Mitchell and key reserves Ty Jerome and De’Andre Hunter, but went with their other four starters.

Boston, which set the league record for 3s in a season this month, hit seven in the third, pushing a one-point halftime edge to 91-75 entering the fourth.
Magic 129, Pacers 115 >> Trevelin Queen scored a career-high 25 points and Anthony Black added 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists to lift Orlando in a battle of backups in Indianapolis.

The loss locked the Pacers into the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference and creates a first-round rematch against Milwaukee. Indiana won that series last season.
Sixers’ Embiid undergoes knee surgery >> Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday, and the team said he will be re-evaluated in about six weeks.Embiid originally had meniscus surgery on Feb. 6, 2024, days after Golden State forward Jonathan Kuminga fell on the leg. Wells expected to miss rest of season >> Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaylen Wells is expected to miss the rest of the season after breaking his right wrist and sustaining a concussion and facial laceration in a hard fall Tuesday against the Charlotte Hornets.
Wells, a former Sonoma State star, is the team’s top perimeter defender and one of the league’s top rookies. He averages 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The team expects him to make a full recovery.
Wells caught an outlet pass from Ja Morant in the second quarter against the Hornets and was going up for the jam when Charlotte’s KJ Simpson caught up and inadvertently undercut him. Wells lost his balance and landed awkwardly on his side as his head hit the court near the baseline.
Wells was attended to on the floor for eight minutes. Medical personnel placed the 21-year-old Sacramento native on a stretcher and immobilized his head before he was taken to the hospital.
Wells emerged as a Rookie of the Year candidate this season after coming out of Washington State as the 39th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. He has started 73 of 78 games for the Grizzlies, while shooting 35.5% from 3-point range.
Wells averaged 26.3 points per game as a senior at Folsom. He transferred to Washington State after being named California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year during his sophomore season at Sonoma State.
