No. 6 DU Pioneers fall 4-3 in overtime to Alaska Anchorage

Sophomore forward James Reeder scored with 80 seconds left in the third period for the No. 6 University of Denver hockey team to force overtime, but the Pioneers fell in the extra period and lost 4-3 to the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Friday night at Magness Arena.

Denver (3-3-1) and Alaska Anchorage (1-4-0) wrapped up their series on Saturday night.

The Pioneers outshot the Seawolves 49-20 but trailed going into the final minutes of play.

The Seawolves’ Dimitry Kebreau scored the game-winner with 1:05 remaining in the 3-on-3 OT period.

Forever Young beats Sierra Leone to win $7M Breeders’ Cup Classic

DEL MAR, Calif. >> Forever Young beat defending champion Sierra Leone by a half-length to win the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday at Del Mar, giving Japan a victory in North America’s richest race.

Forever Young ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:00.19 and paid $9 to win at 7-2 odds.

The race lost Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner Sovereignty when the colt was scratched after spiking a fever earlier in the week.

Fierceness was third and Preakness winner Journalism was fourth.

Sinner routs Zverev to set up Paris Masters final against Auger-Aliassime

PARIS >> Jannik Sinner routed a weary-looking Alexander Zverev 6-0, 6-1 in a little more than an hour Saturday to reach the Paris Masters final and move closer to reclaiming the No. 1 ranking.

The four-time Grand Slam champion from Italy will replace six-time major winner Carlos Alcaraz at the top if he wins Sunday’s final against ninth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime earlier beat Alexander Bublik 7-6 (3), 6-4 in their semifinal at La Défense Arena.

Uhlaender doesn’t make U.S. World Cup team, leaving Olympics in doubt

Katie Uhlaender’s bid to become the first American women’s slider to make six Olympic teams hit a major bump Saturday when she didn’t qualify for the U.S. World Cup team that will start competing later this month.

The team includes world silver medalist Mystique Ro, Sara Roderick, 2022 Olympian Kelly Curtis and Kendall Wesenberg, along with Austin Florian, Dan Barefoot and Nick Tucker on the men’s team.

Morant suspended 1 game by Memphis for conduct detrimental to the team

Memphis has suspended two-time All-Star guard Ja Morant for its game Sunday at the Toronto Raptors, for what they described as conduct detrimental to the team.

Morant scored only eight points in Memphis’ 117-112 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. He had a brief postgame interview session, with most of his answers some form of “Go ask the coaching staff.”

Hye-Jin Choi maintains her tournament-long lead at LPGA Malaysia
