SANTA CLARA >> Senior quarterback Dominic Pierini threw five touchdown passes, and Monte Vista Christian School’s football team rolled past Santa Clara 42-6 in the teams’ nonleague game Friday night.

“Overall, it was a really great night,” said Spencer Ferrari-Wood, the Mustangs’ head coach.

The Mustangs led 21-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at the half. They made it 41-0 in the third quarter and gave up a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Pierini finished 29-of- 36 passing for 429 yards. He threw a pair of touchdown passes to both Nico Downie and Nate Collins, and one to Boston Ashe.

“We’re going to hang our hat on that this year,” Ferrari-Wood said of MVC’s pass attack. “Our guys played really well and executed at a high level.”

Downie finished with six catches for 128 yards, Max Torres had seven catches for 106 yards, Ashe had six catches for 80 yards, and Jordan Ramirez had eight catches for 64 yards.

Senior linebacker Gunner Sorensen made 17 tackles for the Mustangs. Torres made 10 tackles. Mykhailo Bronevytskyy had six tackles and a sack, and Dylan Rush also had six stops. Brady Cortez had four tackles and an interception, and Ashe recovered a fumble.

MVC (1-1) hosts Carlmont (1-0) of Belmont on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

SLV 21, Gunderson 6

SAN JOSE >> Quarterback Jake Dagan ran for three touchdowns and 125 yards in the Cougars’ nonleague win Friday.

“Jack Dagan is proving to be a major offensive weapon and also a great senior leader,” Cougars coach David Grant said. “All offseason he was one of the hardest working guys. It’s definitely showing on the field.”

SLV’s Chase Thomsen made 10 tackles and recorded an interception. Teammate Kenji Payne had seven tackles and a fumble recovery.

Punter Riley Johnson helped give the Cougars favorable field position several times, Grant said.

“We got a win tonight when we felt like we did not play that well overall,” Grant said. “We had a lot of penalties and made some mistakes but we still played good enough to win. Gundersen has a really good QB. We knew he was gonna be tough. He can run and throw really well.”

SLV (2-0) plays at rival Scotts Valley (1-0) on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.

Archbishop Mitty 41, at Aptos 19

APTOS >> The Monarchs scored early and often and handed the host Mariners a nonleague loss Friday.

Mitty, which competes in the prestigious West Catholic Athletic League, led 20-0 after the first quarter and 34-6 at the half.

Aptos’ Dylan Guisado scored on a 1-yard run, Casey MacConnell had a 3-yard touchdown reception, and Ryan Solorio had a 42-yard TD reception.

DeSean Gomez recorded a sack for the Mariners (1-1).

Mitty senior quarterback Jonah Kroenung passed for three touchdown, all 41 yards or longer, and has seven touchdown passes through two games. He threw two scoring strikes to Alec Grimaldo and one to senior receiver Billy Hutton.

Junior running back Lazaro Faraj-Washington rushed for a pair of touchdowns for the Monarchs (2-0), and Hutton also rushed for a score.

“That was a good Mitty team that came out and got after us from the jump,” Mariners coach Zach Hewett said .

Aptos takes on host Watsonville (1-1) in the Black and Blue Bowl on Friday at 7 p.m.
