Resident of Riverhead, New York

Sadly, Vince “Vinnie” Doherty left us far too soon on December 2, 2024, at the age of 68. Vince was born in Florida, the first of four children born to Jerome and Marilyn Doherty on May 8, 1956. Vince was a great big brother to Sandy, Kevin and Laura. Our Dad who was in the Air Force, moved to Mountain View, California and was stationed at Moffett Field Air Base.

The Doherty family settled nearby in Santa Clara, CA.

Vince went to St. Lawrence Elementary School, Mitty and Wilcox High Schools in Santa Clara. After high school, Vince enlisted in the Army and spent time in Georgia, Washington and Korea as a helicopter maintenance crew chief. After his Honorable Discharge in 1978, Vince went to Mission College and San Jose State University and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Marketing.

In 2001, Vince met Gerri McCarthy, the love of his life, and moved from California to New York City. Vince and Gerri, married on a beautiful snowy evening in Belmore, Long Island on December 5, 2003. Vince loved Long Island, adored his extended Irish family (McCarthy's) and being an uncle, brother-in-law, and cousin for many family members between NY and CA.

Professionally, Vince loved aeronautics and followed his dreams to earn his private pilot’s license, and continued his love of the sky, with a successful career selling and marketing FAA-required aircraft hardware and software.

In retirement, Vince loved working on and around the house, he took several courses towards becoming a certified Veterinarian Technician. Vince spent many hours outfitting his Dodge Ram as a cross-country-ready camper. Vince loved to drive and see the U.S. and did a few cross-country drives across the country.

Vince (and Gerri) rescued, fostered and had several Husky dogs as pets. While at home (along with the dogs), Vince and Gerri enjoyed being on or by the water and entertaining their big family and many friends at their home in Riverhead, Long Island. While Vince loved being a New Yorker, he continued his staunch love and support of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers.

As Vince was living in Long Island, we had alovely Celebration of Life and Military Honors ceremony in NY, on December 10, 2024. To honor Vin, in lieu of flowers, please help and send donations in Vince’s name, to Siberian Husky Assistance and Rescue Program of New York.
