CHICO >> One week ago, I dropped my iPhone in a parking lot right on its face and shattered the screen.

I couldn’t use the phone at all after that because, due to the break, I wasn’t able to type or really do anything with the phone. I was panicking because, of course, I need my phone.

I was busy during the day Sunday so I wasn’t able to go get a new phone or repair it. So I just had to grin and bear it for the eight hours of lack-of-phone torture.

I wasn’t sure if I should just buy a new phone or get it repaired. I’ve never broken a phone before, so I didn’t know what the procedure was. I looked up cell phone repair and Monday went to a shop on Mangrove called iRepair. The guy there said he couldn’t fix the phone for two days and didn’t have my phone model in stock. He wasn’t super friendly or helpful I must say.

I told my co-workers and bosses what happened and my boss recommended going to Batteries Plus on Zanella Way.

The guys there were very nice and knowledgeable, although they said I wouldn’t be able to get a new phone for two weeks and they couldn’t fix it. One of them suggested going to Cell Phone Repair, or CPR, at 1304 Mangrove Ave., and called ahead for me. I thought it was a clever name, like they perform CPR on phones.

This is where I had success. I talked to Wes Keener, the manager, and he was extremely nice and helpful — and even called me by name. He said he could repair the phone in two hours. I was surprised he could do it that fast and also relieved.

Keener said the most common problem with phones are accidental screen breaks. Other problems are phones not charging properly and liquid damage. He fixes Androids, iPhones and things in between, even flip phones, which still exist.

Keener said he has some background in electronics from serving in the army and did automotive repair. He’s been doing repairs since the early days of iPhones.

Keener said in a typical day, he fixes about 10-15 phones. More information can be found on the website at cellphonerepair/chico-california.

I was so happy when I got my phone back two hours later with a beautiful new screen. The cost was about $300.

“We have a ton of experience under our belts,” Keener said. “We’ve been in business for a long time, and we strive for excellent customer service and doing things by the book.”

Keener sells phones and gently used devices and accessories such as charging cords, adapters and screen protectors. He also repairs gaming consoles such as Xboxes and PlayStations.
