A winner for the city of Woodland’s 2025 Region Park Preserve Photography Contest will be recognized next week.

Peri Hoke — who has been recognized for the past three years as a Cache Creek Nature Preserve photo contest winner — was selected for the city’s contest.

Spencer Bowen, communication and strategic policies manager for the city, is reporting to the council that the contest was to help celebrate the recent grand opening of the Regional Park that occurred in mid-May. The park is located east of County Road 102 near CR-25.

Bowen reported the contest began in May and closed June 13. City staff reviewed an unspecified number of entries and selected Hoke’s as the winner.

The photograph shows a bird box with two birds that appear to be black phoebe’s possibly getting ready to build a nest.

“Peri’s photo demonstrates one of the park preserve’s bird boxes in use,” Bowen states.

In the coming weeks, the city will print and display Hoke’s winning photo at the kiosk near the entrance of the park preserve.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall, 300 First St. It will be the last meeting before a one-month summer break.

Hoke was honored in May this year as one of three winners in the Cache Creek Preserve’s third annual photography contest that ended on Earth Day, April 22, among more than 20 entries.

Hoke took top prize in the Professional Photographer category for a photograph of two white egrets.

Winners of that contest had their work displayed on the Cache Creek Conservancy website as well as used on its Facebook Page. Winners also received a $100 VISA gift card, courtesy of Vulcan Materials Company.
