Denzel Washington sandwiched a whirlwind trip to the Cannes Film Festival, in between Broadway performances, for the premiere of Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest” on Monday — and was rewarded with a surprise: an honorary Palme d’Or.
Cannes had flipped around some of its scheduling to accommodate Washington’s speedy France trip, which came on his lone day off while performing “Othello” in New York. Cannes Film Festival chief Thierry Frémaux surprised Washington with the award before the Monday night premiere.
“This is my brother, right here,” said the film’s director, Lee, who passed the award to Washington.
“This is a total surprise for me,” Washington said.
The festival usually gives out one or two honorary Palmes each edition. Surprise prizes aren’t unheard of.
Bieber addresses rumors he was a victim of Diddy
When it comes to Justin Bieber, many lately are wondering if the singer was a victim of Sean “Diddy” Combs during the early days of his music career.
Bieber has broken his silence on the matter as Diddy’s ongoing sex trafficking trial continues.
In a statement shared with People on Friday, a spokesperson for the “Peaches” singer, 31, stated, “Although Justin is not among Sean Combs’ victims, there are individuals who were genuinely harmed by him.
“Shifting focus away from this reality detracts from the justice these victims rightfully deserve,” the representative added.
The direct statement from Bieber’s camp comes after a 2009 video of Bieber at age 15 and Diddy was brought to light.
“Where we hanging out and what we’re doing, we can’t really disclose,” Diddy said in the video. “But it’s definitely a 15-year-old’s dream.”
drummer fired again, says the who asked him to lie
Zak Starkey is out as the Who’s drummer for the second time in just a month’s time, and this time it looks like things got pretty ugly between him and the band.
Guitarist Pete Townshend first shared the news on Instagram.
“After many years of great work on drums form Zak the time has come for a change,” he wrote. “A poignant time. Zak has lots of new projects in hand and I wish him the best.”
That is when Starkey, who is the son of former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, responded.
“I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit The Who to pursue my other musical (endeavors) this would be a lie,” he wrote.
