Resident of San Ramon
Rick Byron McEwen passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in his hometown of San Ramon, Ca. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, coach, and legendary storyteller.
A proud Vietnam veteran, Rick served his country with honor before returning home to build a life filled with love, laughter, and softball. He met the love of his life, Jackie, and—wasting no time—married her just ten days after their first date. That spontaneous leap of faith led to 59 years of unwavering love, adventure, and a family they cherished. Together, they raised Sean and Shelly, and Rick found his greatest joy in being a grandpa to Andrew, Josh, Gunner, and Alyssa, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Conor, and Penny.
Rick’s passion and love for the game ran deep. Known to most as “Coach Rick,” he dedicated over 30 years to running a baseball and softball clinic, shaping not just skilled players but strong, confident young men and women.
Rick’s impact will be felt far beyond the ballpark. His humor, wisdom, and larger-than-life presence will be missed beyond measure. A celebration of his incredible life will be held on Saturday, February 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Graham &Hitch Funeral Home in Pleasanton.
In true Rick fashion, we’ll send him off with laughter, love, and a few good stories. Play ball, Coach.
