New Lenox will soon see its third Lenny’s Gas N Wash station.

Trustees approved plans Monday for a Lenny’s Gas N Wash on 4 acres at the northwest corner of Schoolhouse and Laraway roads.

The village already has two Lenny’s Gas N Wash stations, one on Route 6 and another under construction along Route 30.

The Laraway Road location will include diesel pumps for trucks, a car wash and vacuums, and video gaming inside the station. Construction is expected to begin in 2022, an attorney representing the gas station said.

A handful of residents raised concerns about increased traffic on Laraway Road and neighboring streets.

“To me, it feels like it would increase traffic,” said Amanda Graczyk, who lives less than a mile away.

Graczyk also asked if a gas station was the best use for the property, suggesting a retail center with restaurants would be a better use and would provide residents with a gathering place.

Village officials said they have somewhat limited control over how property develops if it fits within zoning regulations. The area around the gas station is

industrial.

Village officials also said while there has been some retail development along Laraway Road, some of it, such as the grocery store developments, was aided by village incentives.

Officials said changes to the plan were made to help address resident concerns.

The number of diesel pumps, for example, was decreased from three to two.

The gas station also will have limited right-in/right-out access off Laraway and Schoolhouse roads.

A full access will be located off Airway Court, according to development plans.

Mayor Tim Baldermann said he did not anticipate an increase in truck traffic.

“I can’t imagine why any truck would seek out this gas station unless they were already on Laraway Road,” Baldermann said.
