The Woodland Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees recognized Woodland High School student Stephanie Ballesteros late last month for receiving the prestigious “Every Student Succeeding” award from the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 3.

Each year, ACSA honors students who overcome challenges and succeed against all odds. Ballesteros was selected as one of 17 students within Sacramento and Yolo counties to receive this honor and recognition.

“Stephanie is the definition of resiliency and ‘ganas,’” said Woodland High School Principal Gerald Salcido. “She has made tremendous efforts to continue to be one of our top students despite any personal challenges. I admire her work ethic and have no doubt she is going to be successful.”

Ballesteros has a 4.4 GPA and has completed nine classes at Woodland Community College. She has served as the vice president of the FCCLA Club and the National Honor Society, showcasing her leadership skills. She also founded the Crochet Club and co-founded the Wellness Club, demonstrating her passion for community building and her commitment to promoting mental and physical well-being among her peers.

“This award is a reminder of how far I’ve come, despite the challenges,” Ballesteros said.

Ballesteros also participated in Link Crew and completed a rigorous three-day training program aimed at mentoring and guiding new freshmen.

The WJUSD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin recognized Ballesteros during the Feb. 20 board Meeting.

“I want to thank Mr. Salcido for granting me the opportunity to receive this award and to stand here today as a role model to other young teens who have or may be currently struggling with challenges,” Ballesteros said. “My message to those who are struggling is to keep going and to keep fighting because there is a way out, and you are more than capable.”

Ortega-Lampkin praised Ballesteros’ accomplishments and highlighted our District’s dedication to student success.

“Stephanie’s remarkable journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the support of our caring and supportive school community,” Ortega-Lampkin said. “At WJUSD, we are committed to preparing and empowering all students for a future of endless possibilities. We are incredibly proud of Stephanie’s achievements, and she inspires everyone in our District.”
