NEWARK >> A Newark man has been charged with possessing or controlling child pornography after authorities received an online tip, authorities said.

Detectives arrested the 20-year-old suspect June 8 at his residence in the 5000 block of Souza Avenue, according to a statement from Newark police.

They served a warrant after becoming aware of the crime from the Cyber Tipline operated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

During their search, police said they observed several guns. One of them was a personally manufactured ghost gun, police said.

As a result, authorities also charged the man with felony possession of an assault weapon and misdemeanor manufacturing of a firearm without a serial number, according to Alameda County court documents.

The suspect went to Santa Rita Jail but was not listed in custody Thursday.

Authorities said online exploitation of children can be reported 24 hours a day to the Cyber Tipline at 800-843-5678 or by going to cybertipline.com.
