Swift gigs canceled after arrests in terrorism case
Three Taylor Swift concerts in Austria have been canceled as Austrian authorities said Wednesday that two suspects were arrested in connection with plans for an alleged attack in the Vienna region.
Swift was due to play three shows in Vienna between today and Saturday. Those dates were canceled Wednesday, according to Barracuda Music, the promoter for Swift’s concerts in Austria.
“With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” Barracuda Music said in a post on social media.
Speaking at a news conference in the capital, police said a 19-year-old Austrian citizen, whom they identified as an Islamic State sympathizer, was arrested Wednesday morning in Ternitz, lower Austria, while another arrest was carried out later that morning in Vienna.
Gaffe or not, Tenacious D will be back, Black says
Jack Black now says Tenacious D will return after abruptly canceling a tour amid backlash over bandmate Kyle Gass’ joke about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime,” Black told Variety on Tuesday at the premiere of his new movie, “Borderlands.” “And we’ll be back.”
Black and Gass have been longtime friends and performing partners in both Tenacious D and movies like “Shallow Hal,” “The Cable Guy,” “Bio-Dome” and “Saving Silverman.” Fans wondered if that friendship was over after Black gave Gass a birthday cake at an Australian concert last month and asked Gass to make a wish. Gass joked, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” a day after a shooting injured the Republican presidential candidate’s ear.
Black said he was “blindsided” by Gass’ comments and called off the rest of Tenacious D’s tour, putting “all future creative plans ... on hold.” Gass apologized for his comments in a since-deleted Instagram post.
Fugees cancel U.S. tour, including Hollywood gig
Sorry, Fugees fans. Looks like you won’t get to see the hip-hop group perform this year after all.
A U.S. leg of the The Miseducation Anniversary Tour, featuring Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, has been canceled, according to Variety and the Independent.
The first show was scheduled for Tampa, Florida, on Friday. A Hollywood Bowl stop had been set for Sept. 17. No reason was provided, but scheduled dates were removed from Ticketmaster, news reports said.
In November, Hill and the Fugees postponed several tour dates due to what Hill called severe vocal strain.
