Thousands of Southern California residents remained without power Sunday as excessive heat continues to take a toll on the region.
As of 5 p.m., Southern California Edison was reporting 66 outages affecting 8,840 customers in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported at 2 p.m. Saturday there were 7,042 customers without power and around 100 outage incidents in mainly residential areas.
“It will take time for crews to respond to and restore all affected areas as safely as possible, the LADWP posted at 4:45 p.m. Saturday. “Please be patient with us as our crews continue to work around the clock.”
The LADWP reported about 8:15 p.m. Saturday that it could take 12-24 hours from the start of an outage to restore power. It may take additional time to fully restore power, with the persistent heat wave making it difficult for equipment to properly cool down overnight, utility spokeswoman Terinn Holman added.
The Hollywood Bowl canceled a concert Sunday because of a power outage. The venue’s website said it was to host Vance Joy, Grouplove and Tiny Habits, as part of a KCRW Festival event.
The venue is off the 101 Freeway and Highland Avenue.
“If a new date for this performance can be confirmed, details will follow and tickets for the original date will be valid for the new performance date,” the Hollywood Bowl said on social media.
Ticket holders with questions, refund requests or exchanges were advised to contact Audience Services at information@laphil.org
The outage at the Hollywood Bowl was due to electrical equipment that overheated, said Holman. With extreme heat affecting the metropolitan area, equipment hasn’t had time to cool down, causing it to overheat and lead to outages, Holman said.
As of 6 p.m. Sunday, the utility said in a news release that more than 15,000 customers across its coverage area were without power amid a heat wave impacting the area, with residents most impacted in Harvard Park, Hollywood and Northridge.

Los Angeles officials were urging DWP customers to report power outages to 800-DIAL DWP (800-342-5397) or their website immediately. The DWP needs the real-time information to deploy crews to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
SCE customers can report an outage at sce.com/outage-center/report-an-outage.
Residents are also urged to conserve power during the peak afternoon and early evening hours to avoid blackouts.
“Stay safe and cool by adjusting your thermostats to 78,” the DWP advised. “If you’re away from your home, turn your AC systems off.”
The utility also recommends using major appliances such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, and dishwashers before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m., or not at all if possible until the heat waves passes.
Some students at homes near USC’s University Park campus lost power around 9:30 p.m. Friday, and other outages cut power to thousands more in the surrounding areas, including Mount St. Mary’s University, West Adams and Exposition Park.
The campus itself did not lose power.
“Power on the UPC (main) Campus is currently operational,” the university wrote in an alert Friday. “LADWP is working to restore service.”
Some 251 customers were affected by 12 power outages around 4 p.m. Sunday, covering multiple cities in Orange County, including Mission Viejo, Westminster and Buena Park. Power was expected to be restored later that evening or early Monday morning.
In Riverside County, 1,461 people were impacted by a power outage around 4 p.m. Sunday in an unincorporated area of Riverside County. An additional 1,591 customers were affected by another outage in Menifee around the same time.
Officials say 844 people were affected by a power outage around 3 p.m. Sunday in an unincorporated part of San Bernardino County. Another 79 people dealt with an overnight power outage due to equipment problems in the Running Springs area, as the Line fire burned nearby.
