An 89-year-old SUV driver heading the wrong way on a West Covina street crashed into a car head-on — killing his wife and a DoorDash driver Monday night, police said.

The man, who police said is from San Marino, was also injured in the collision on Azusa Avenue at Greenville Drive. He was listed in stable condition at a hospital, Sgt. Steven Spagon said.

The collision was reported to West Covina police at 7:46 p.m. that night.

The DoorDash driver, in a Camry, was heading south when the SUV traveling north hit her, Spagon said. She died at the scene.

Police don’t yet know why the man was driving the wrong way.

His wife, a passenger in the SUV, died at a hospital.

The medical examiner’s office had not yet publicly identified the two women.
