


SALINAS >> A man who robbed a department store in Salinas earlier this year will be sentenced at the end of the month.
Justin Luis Calderon, 33, from Salinas was found guilty of commercial burglary, vehicle theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license after a two-day trial.
Salinas Police Department officers were called to the Macy’s store at Northridge Mall on Feb. 16. Calderon was caught stealing an array of clothing and cosmetic items valued over $950, according to Macy’s asset protection agents.
While transporting Calderon to the Monterey County Jail, a police officer found a methamphetamine pipe in his sweater.
On Feb. 19, a Salinas resident woke up and got into her car to leave for work. After starting her car and placing her purse inside, she ran back into the house to grab her coffee. When she came back outside, her car was gone.Twenty-five minutes later, Calderon was found driving the woman’s stolen vehicle, and he did not have a valid California driver’s license at the time.
Calderon is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30.
