Judge hit his 35th home run of the season, a two-run drive that pulled New York to 5-2, the eventual final score.
Playing in his 1,088th game, Judge bettered Mark McGwire’s 1,280.
Braves’ Riley on IL with right abdominal strain
The Atlanta Braves placed two-time All-Star third baseman Austin Riley on the 10-day injured list with a strained right abdomen.
Riley was lifted for a pinch hitter in the fourth inning of the Braves’ 6-5 win at St. Louis on Friday night.
He said he first noticed discomfort while fielding a Pedro Pagés bunt in the second inning, and it got worse in the third.
Riley is hitting .274 this season and entered Saturday ranked third in the NL with 104 hits to go with 14 home runs with 48 RBIs.
Red Sox’s Dobbins out for year with ACL tear
Red Sox right-hander Hunter Dobbins said on Saturday he knew his season was probably over when he felt a familiar feeling in his knee.
He was right. Dobbins was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, his second ACL tear in his right knee.
Covering first base in the second inning of Boston’s 5-4 walk-off win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night, the 25-year-old Dobbins stepped awkwardly and limped after recording an out by making a catch on a throw from first baseman Abraham Toro.
Skenes, Skubal tabbed to start All-Star Game
For the second consecutive year, second-year starter Paul Skenes will start the MLB All-Star Game. The 23-year-old Pittsburgh Pirates ace will start for the National League team on Tuesday in Atlanta.
Skenes has just a 4-8 record, but he leads the majors with a 2.01 ERA. He’s completed 121 innings, the fourth-highest total in the majors. He has 131 strikeouts, seventh-most in baseball, and has allowed a majors-low 27 earned runs.
Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal, with a 10-3 record and a 2.23 ERA, will start for the American League team.

United pound San Jose, Lod breaks Loons record
Robin Lod’s contribution to Tani Oluwaseyi’s opening goal made him Minnesota United’s all-time regular-season assist leader with 34.
More importantly on Saturday night at Allianz Field, the goal set the Loons on course for a lopsided 4-1 defeat of the San Jose Earthquakes.
Oluwaseyi’s goal in the second minute gave the hosts an early lead that quick-strike scores from Kelvin Yeboah and Anthony Markanich in the 42nd and 50th minute, respectively, sending United to the break up 3-0.
The Loons spent most of the second half in cruise control, matching an Earthquakes goal with a Joseph Rosales tally to finish off the contest in the 95th minute before the final whistle blew to end matters on a smoky night in the St. Paul Midway.
United returns to action on Wednesday, when LAFC and former Tottenham Hotspur netminder Hugo Lloris visit Allianz for a 7:30 p.m. start.

Matters got interesting in the ninth as Iowa scored four times to pull within a run.

Lynx waive Pili, who team preferred to Reese
Hours after being defeated by the Chicago Sky and Angel Reese, the Lynx announced that they waived the player the team drafted instead.
Forward Alissa Pili was cut after averaging just 5.5 minutes, 1.9 points and 1.2 rebounds in 14 appearances this season.
Pili was the player Minnesota selected eighth overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft after after swapping the seventh and eighth picks with the Sky. At No. 7, Chicago took Reese, who led the WNBA in rebounding during her rookie season and is leading the category again this season.

Cardinals’ Pro Bowl OT Sharpe dies at 65
Luis Sharpe, a three-time Pro Bowl selection at left tackle for the Cardinals during the franchise’s time in both St. Louis and Arizona, has died. He was 65.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Sharpe played all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Cardinals, spanning from 1982 to 1994. He made three straight Pro Bowls from 1987 to 1989.

BYU QB Retzlaff plans to switch to new school
BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff is transferring after a tumultuous few months that included being named in a civil sexual assault suit that was later dismissed.
Retzlaff reportedly faced a suspension for violating the honor code at the Mormon-run university after acknowledging a consensual sexual relationship in his defense against the lawsuit.
Retzlaff threw for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions last season as the Cougars contended for a spot in the Big 12 championship game.

USMNT’s Tillman signs for Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen has moved to replace Florian Wirtz by signing United States international Malik Tillman from PSV Eindhoven for a club-record fee.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder signed a contract through June 2030, the Bundesliga club said.
Kicker magazine reported Leverkusen was paying PSV a fixed sum of 35 million euros ($41 million) for the player, making him the club’s most expensive incoming transfer.
