Resident of Lafayette

Steven Alfred Roberti, 85, passed away on December 21, 2025, in Walnut Creek, California. Born April 1, 1940, in Richmond, California Steven devoted his life to service—through his profession, community involvement, and steadfast dedication to family.

A skilled electrician, Steven was a lifelong member of IBEW Local 302. His commitment to labor advocacy led him to serve as manager of the Contra Costa Labor Council from 1988 to 1996. During this time, he was recognized by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors for his leadership and significant contributions to the labor movement.

In 1996, the U.S. Department of Labor appointed Steven the regional manager for Region IX, overseeing labor affairs across the Western United States. His deep knowledge of infrastructure and transportation policy was instrumental in this role and remained a defining element of his professional legacy.

Steven’s influence extended beyond organized labor into the broader business community. He held leadership positions in several key organizations, including the Contra Costa Council, Bay Area Economic Forum, and the Coalition of Labor and Business. His ability to bridge the interests of labor and business earned him respect across sectors.

His dedication to public service was evident throughout his life. Steven worked with numerous community organizations and foundations such as United Way, Shelter Inc., and the Labor Project for Working Families and Contra Costa Regional Health Foundation. As a political consultant, he managed campaigns that supported vital regional infrastructure projects, particularly those focused on county transportation measures and mass transit initiatives aimed at promoting economic development.

Over the years, Steven was honored and received many civic awards and recognition for his community involvement and service, usually acknowledging his desire to improve the lives of the working class in our community.

This philosophy and belief are what attracted the Federal Government to seek out Steven for the Labor Department.

Steven is remembered as a loving husband to wife Diane Roberti; devoted father to daughters Christine Collins (Barry), Sherri Roberti, and Gina Roberti (Jeff); proud grandfather to Ryan Collins, Marcus Collins, Raquel Collins, and Joseph Wells; and cherished great-grandfather to Ava Collins and Amaya Collins.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Steven found joy in following California sports teams. He was an avid fan and many years season ticket holder of the San Francisco 49ers, Giants, and Golden State Warriors. When his grandchildren’s high school sports ended, he began following woman’s softball at Cal Berkeley and soon became a Cal Booster.

He also had a strong appreciation for California history, enjoyed travelling both near and far, often taking long road trips with Diane exploring the west. In later years, he took great interest in exploring genealogy and would reach out to relatives both near and far looking to fill in the gaps. Each year Steven volunteered and helped organize the annual family reunion, bringing together the Italian side of the family.

He was predeceased by his brother Stanley Roberti; father Bruno Roberti; mother Virginia Roberti; and stepmother Faye Roberti.

Steven Alfred Roberti leaves behind a legacy marked by leadership, service, and devotion to family. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
