Michigan junior quarterback Alex Orji is entering his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

A source within the Michigan football program confirmed the news to The Detroit News on Friday, while Orji also seemed to confirm his decision on Instagram by sharing a post of his plans to enter the portal that was first reported by On3. He has two years of eligibility remaining. Michigan quarterback Jayden Denegal, also a junior, entered the portal earlier this week.

This season, Orji made three starts, taking over for Davis Warren who started the first three games, and was 23-of-44 for three touchdowns with one interception. He was more of a running threat and was third on the team in rushing, with 53 carries for 260 yards and a touchdown. During his career, he had 74 carries for 343 yards and four touchdowns.

Orji was replaced at Washington, his third start, by Jack Tuttle, who started the next game at Illinois. Warren then started the final five games of the regular season and, according to head coach Sherrone Moore earlier this week, is practicing with the team as the Wolverines prepare for the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa against Alabama on New Year’s Day. Moore said this week he intends to add a quarterback from the portal. Warren and freshman Jadyn Davis currently are on the roster, and Bryce Underwood from Belleville, the No. 1 overall recruit, has signed for the 2025 class. Chase Herbstreit also will be a freshman quarterback in 2025.
