July must be forgetting what time of the year it’s supposed to be because next week’s highs are expected to only be in the 80s.
Now that I’ve successfully jinxed it, let’s take a look at the weekend, which features a bit of music and a whole lot of opportunities to give back.
Concert at the Barn
Kicking the weekend off with some music, Chico’s very own Decades — a cover band whose music spans not only genres, but generations — which will be playing a show at the Barn in Merriam Park on Friday night.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the show start at $20 and can be purchased at showclix.com/event/decades. Door tickets will be sold for $25, provided the show doesn’t sell out beforehand.
The Barn is located at 1930 Market Place.

Toy Run
If you’re looking to give back while also looking cool doing it, the Butte County Toy Run and Sierra Steel Harley-Davidson are joining together for its annual riding event on Saturday just in time for Christmas — in July!
Admission to the event is only $5 plus a gift card to support gifts for local kids. Check-in time is at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sierra Steel Harley-Davidson, located at 1501 Mangrove Ave.
Those taking part will get to ride around Butte County with a crew of people. Hawaiian shirts and Santa hats are the official fit of the event.
After the ride, participants will get a free lunch and community hangout.

Freedom Fundraiser
And if you’re not done supporting the community yet, the Freedom Fundraiser is planned for Saturday evening with proceeds going to support Planned Parenthood.
The fundraiser starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. at the Chico City Plaza in downtown. A live club DJ will provide the music and attendees can purchase goods from the bake sale. Refreshments will be available as well.
The plaza is located at 132 W. Fourth St.
