David McCandless McKell, III, formerly of Saratoga and Cupertino, CA passed away on October 3, 2024. A devoted son and loving brother, father and grandfather, he leaves behind a legacy of family and generosity. The eldest child of David McCandless McKell, Jr. and May Frances McKell, Dave was born on July 14, 1942, in Boston, MA, moving to Saratoga, CA in 1948. He graduated from Bellarmine Preparatory College in San Jose in 1960 and attended SJSU as a Phi Sigma Kappa before graduating from CSU East Bay. He served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years. Dave was instrumental in the successful campaign to pass Proposition 13, a widely popular property tax amendment to the Constitution of California that was enacted on June 6, 1978.

Dave married Sheila Darlene Vance in March 1969. He is survived by his four children Erinn Elizabeth McKell, Ashley Vance (McKell) McDonnell, David McCandless McKell, IV, and Matthew Christopher McKell, and by his five grandchildren Tristan, Teaghan, Kaitlyn, Madison and Lachlan. Dave is also survived by five siblings: Susan Edna (McKell) Dawson, William Donovan McKell, Joseph Scott McKell, Catherine Mary (McKell) Kelley, and Michael James McKell. He was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Mary Ellen (McKell) Stanley, and twin sons who died at birth.

A Celebration of Life ceremony is planned for Sat. Oct. 26, 2024 from 1:00 -6:00pm at1255 San Fernando Dr. Salinas, CA. A private interment will take place at the family plot at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga, CA.
