A 27-year-old Bloomfield Hills man who reportedly crashed his vehicle which then caught fire is suspected of driving while intoxicated, police said.
According to the Troy Police Department, the man crashed a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox near Northfield Parkway and Long Lake Road at around 10:30 p.m. on April 3, and when officers arrived it was fully-engulfed in flames and had heavy crash damage to the entire vehicle. No other vehicles were involved.
Police said his breath smelled like he’d been drinking alcohol. The man refused medical attention from paramedics called to the scene and was arrested. At the Troy jail, he refused a breath test, police said.
Medical personnel drew his blood after a search warrant for a blood test was obtained, police said.
The case was turned over to Troy’s detective bureau. Any potential charges are pending blood test results.
