SAN JOSE — Firefighters brought a Tier 3 wildfire that broke out in the East San Jose foothills Tuesday to full containment Wednesday morning.

All evacuation warnings were also lifted and nearby homes were repopulated, according to Cal Fire and the San Jose Fire Department. The fire charred 92 acres.

The blaze, dubbed the Ranch Place fire, was reported just after 4 p.m. in the 3500 block of Ranch Place, near Cataldi Park, according to the agencies.

As of 9:38 p.m., the blaze was 60% contained, Cal Fire said. “Forward progress has been stopped,” the agency said in an incident update at the time. “Resources will be committed through the night working on securing and implementing containment lines.”

Firefighters continued to work on mop up and containment lines through the night, Cal Fire said Wednesday .

Evacuation orders were issued for zones SJS-033, SJS-034 and SJS-051, according to Cal Fire. The order for SJS-051 was later lifted and the others were downgraded to warnings. All orders were lifted by Wednesday morning.

Piedmont Hills High School, located at 1377 Piedmont Road, was used as an evacuation center.

Two helicopters and multiple air tankers, along with 170 personnel, were assigned to the fire, according to San Jose fire Capt. Mitch Matlow.

Time-lapse footage shared by the Fire Department showed a plume of white smoke rising above the blaze shortly after it was reported. The column was visible from downtown.

There were no reports of injuries or damage to structures. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
