California is poised to begin wildfire debris cleanup throughout multiple regions including Butte County.

According to a press release issued Tuesday by Cal Recycle, cleanup efforts have already begun at the Park Fire burn scar while the Thompson Fire area is currently being assessed.

The process consists of air monitoring as well as suppression of ash and dust, truck inspections, removing asbestos and other hidden hazards, cutting down hazard trees and testing soil.

Additionally, work will be done on the Park Fire scar in Tehama County as well as the areas affected by fires in both Kern and Lake counties.

Grant funding

The North Valley Community Foundation announced Tuesday that the Aaron Rodgers NorCal Fire Recovery Fund is looking for programs to provide grant funding to.

According to a release by the foundation, applications are being accepted for programs that “address health and wellness for youth in Butte County, especially in the Camp Fire footprint.”

Grants for this program will likely range between $5,000 and $25,000.

“The grant program seeks to fund innovative projects, not regular ongoing organizational expenses,” the release said. “It hopes to leverage but not duplicate other funding streams. Applications must exhibit how young people will benefit and must show a demonstrated plan to ensure sustainability.”

Feb. 28 will be the deadline for incoming applications.
