Parks and Rec spent $70K on Coot Lake upgrades

Boulder Parks and Recreation workers recently spent $70,452 for improvements at Coot Lake, a popular recreation spot at 6247 N. 63rd St., according to Jonathan Thornton, a senior communications specialist, and $591,133 on racket sport courts.

Workers removed and replaced a wooden bridge in the southeast corner of Coot Lake in October. In addition to the bridge, city workers added two disability-friendly parking lot spots and re-graded a section of the lot to improve its accessibility to residents, according to a press release.

City workers also refurbished several racket sport courts recently for the rapidly local pickleballers and tennis players.

The Arapahoe Ridge Park courts at 1220 Eisenhower Drive got a $287,481 upgrade. Columbine Park courts at 3198 Broadway received a $303,652 upgrade.

Two burglarize store, take $2,000 worth of liquor

Erie police are searching for two burglars who smashed the window of a liquor store in the 3000 block of Arapahoe Road with a rock Tuesday morning and stole $2,000 worth of liquor.

The burglars fled the scene in an SUV at 4:04 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release.

One burglar was wearing a black beanie and hoodie, black gloves, blue jeans and black shoes. The other burglar was wearing a gray beanie, grayish-blue hoodie, blue jeans and red gloves, according to police. Erie police asked anyone with information to call 303-441-4444 and reference case no. 25-0175.

Police evacuate homes after workers hit gas line

Several homes were evacuated in Erie after construction workers hit a gas line near Wright Alley in the Compass neighborhood around 11 a.m. Thursday, according to police spokeswoman Amber Lutrell.

Law enforcement closed Compass Circle between Quest Alley and Wright Alley, Lutrell said.

Erie officials were notified that ALLO Fiber workers struck the gas line, according to Jarod Ballentine, Erie communications specialist. Ballentine said roads into the area remained closed in the late afternoon Thursday as emergency responders worked to address the damage and conduct necessary repairs. Erie officials issued a stop work order to ALLO Fiber and all of its subcontractors, Ballentine said.
