There is at least one criminal illegal immigrant who won’t be sneaking out the back door of any courthouse.
That is the “serial offender” from Chile who allegedly stole Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s handbag containing $3,000 in cash the other day at a Washington restaurant.
If you are in the country illegally and preying on American citizens, you’d be advised not to rob the person who is the country’s chief deporter.
It is a one-way ticket home.
The alleged perp, along with an accomplice, both who have been arrested, is Mario Bustamante-Leiva, a 49-year-old Chilean illegal immigrant with a history of theft.
Noem was out for an Easter dinner with her family, including grandchildren, when her Gucci handbag containing the cash, keys, passport, driver’s license and Homeland Security badge went missing.
It had been swiped.
Both suspects were tracked down and taken into custody after an investigation by the U.S. Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department.
The only thing better would have been for Noem, who often dresses in special forces police garb during ICE immigrant raids, chased down the alleged robbers herself.
There is no indication that the pair of suspects knew who Noem was or had paid any attention to her television warnings to illegal immigrants. Had they known they might have given her a pass.
In those ads, the tough-talking Noem addresses illegal immigrants: “President Trump and I have a clear message to those in our country illegally. Leave now. If you do not self deport, we will hunt you down, arrest you, and deport you.”
Well, they were swiftly hunted down and arrested. The deportation will come later with little chance this time that some woke judge will help them escape as happened in Milwaukee.
That was when Democrat Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by federal agents after allowing an illegal immigrant, who was in her courtroom facing battery charges, out the back door of her courtroom to avoid waiting ICE agents assigned to scoop him up.
Dugan’s arrest came a day after a former New Mexico judge and his wife were taken into custody for harboring an alleged Venezuelan gangbanger who had access to firearms in their home.
Such behavior from judges “will not be tolerated,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said.
She added, “I think some of these judges think they are beyond and above the law and they are not.”
Sometimes, though, they are.
Dugan no doubt was following in the footsteps of Newton District Court Judge Shelley Joseph, also a Democrat. Joseph set the tone for progressive judges to establish their own law.
Joseph, in another Massachusetts first, was the first known judge to allow a twice-deported illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic wanted on drug charges out the courthouse back door to thwart ICE agents waiting to arrest him.
It’s called back door justice. Democrats like Gov. Maura Healey celebrated it.
Joseph was indicted in 2019 on federal charges of conspiracy and conspiracy to obstruct justice by then U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling, a Trump appointee.
No sooner was Joe Biden elected President in 2020 then Lelling was replaced by Democrat Rachael Rollins. But Rollins had her own problems.
So, the Biden U.S. Justice Department appointed Rhode Island U.S Attorney Zachery Cunha, a Democrat, to “review” the Joseph case.
And, to no one’s surprise, Cunha recommended that the charges be dropped, which they were, and the previously suspended Judge Joseph was back on the bench meting out justice.
No one is above the law, of course, except woke Democrat judges with open back doors.
Victims be damned.
