Born in Hibbing, MN in1936, weighing only 3+ lbs., Jill grew into a strong, independent, intelligent woman, graduating as Salutatorian from Hibbing High School and Magna Cum Laude from Macalester College and earning her Master’s Degree in Education from St. Thomas. While studying at Macalester College, she met Ernest Miel and they married in 1959. Jill loved her life, impacting so many during her 24 years of teaching in St. Anthony Village, at Sand Creek Elementary and Johnsville Elementary. She cherished her faith communities at 1st Presbyterian Church as a youth and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church as an adult, and in all other communities where she shared her passion for reading, traveling, learning, loving and helping others.

Jill led an extraordinary life; babysitting Bob (Zimmerman) Dylan, mentoring Mary Jackson Ellis, the first full-time African American elementary school teacher, rubbing elbows and shaking hands with Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon, and candidates Mondale, Humphrey, John Kerry, and Governor Rudy Perpich (her dentist in Hibbing). She loved her family and all the extensions of it all over the world and wanted to thank all her dear friends and connections, and most recently the amazing aides, nurses and staff at Chandler Place, Pearl Gardens and her HealthPartners’ Hospice Care Team!

“Thank you to my family, my friends and the Good Lord! I didn’t have to reach for the stars, they fell in my lap!”
