The political power to dominate others is now taking precedence over upholding the principles of democracy. We read daily reports of people losing their rights, support, and protections. A “survival of the fittest” mindset characterizes our leaders’ actions rather than the morality of respect and genuine concern for the rights of others.

Most of us continue to go about our daily lives imagining and hoping that new leaders will step forward with messages that inspire us to believe that the values laid out in the Constitution are worth fighting for. With our bills to pay, kids to get to school, grocery trips, doctors appointments, etc., it’s hard to carve out a moment to even imagine what personal action one might take to help make that moral difference.

I don’t have an answer to this, but I did hear a friend say something that just rang true: “The more people who now stand up and say something, the better.” Like Mr. Keister implied, we may all have a “dog in the fight.”
