The winning feeling that the Galaxy have started to experience lately disappeared into the night Wednesday in Carson.

Looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season, the Galaxy gave up a pair of easy goals, failed to convert in their attacking situations and suffered a 2-1 loss to Austin FC before 16,272 at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Galaxy (3-14-6, 15 points) had earned at least one point in five of their last six games, including consecutive wins over the Vancouver Whitecaps and D.C. United.

The Galaxy found a late lifeline early into the eight minutes of stoppage time. Joseph Paintsil earned a penalty kick and converted.

Unfortunately for the Galaxy, they were unable to turn that momentum into a second goal to salvage a point. The eight minutes of stoppage time turned into 11. A late low-curler by Paintsil was kept out by a sprawling Brad Stuver in goal for Austin FC to end the game.

“Frustrating,” Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said. “Based on the position where we are, every game is meaningful, doesn’t matter when it is or where it is. Today was an opportunity I think to try to get back into it, and that was a missed opportunity.”

Austin FC, which won the first meeting against the Galaxy in April, opened the scoring in the 40th minute on a goal by Myrto Uzuni. Uzuni was able to get in between Galaxy defenders Maya Yoshida and John Nelson, and finished off the sequence with a shot that beat goalkeeper Novak Micovic.

Owen Wolff scored Austin FC’s second goal in the 63rd minute. The Galaxy had two defenders near an Austin attacker and Micovic coming out to scoop up the ball. However, the ball slid away from Micovic and toward Wolff for the finish.

For strange beginnings, Wednesday’s game had its share.

Shortly after kickoff, play was halted due to players complaining the balls were improperly inflated. After a couple were kicked out of play, the game resumed.

It was another night of the Galaxy wasting their chances in attack. They were credited with 13 shot attempts, but only two were on goal. Gabriel Pec had a frustrating night. The speedy winger was able to get into several dangerous spots, but couldn’t get many attempts on target.

The Galaxy have a quick turnaround with a Saturday trip down to BMO Stadium to face rival LAFC. The first meeting, May 18, ended in a 2-2 draw in Carson.

LAFC 1, Minnesota United 0: ST. PAUL, Minn. — Denis Bouanga scored on a first-half penalty kick and Hugo Lloris made it stand up for his third straight clean sheet as LAFC won in St. Paul, Minn.

Bouanga scored his 11th goal when he sent a right-footed shot past Dayne St. Clair in the 42nd minute. The PK was awarded after Jeremy Ebobisse was fouled by defender Nicolás Romero, who received a yellow card.

Lloris finished with three saves for his league-high-tying ninth clean sheet of the season for LAFC (10-5-5).

St. Clair entered with nine shutouts and totaled five saves for Minnesota (11-5-7).

Minnesota has just one home win over LAFC, which joined the league in 2018. That came in March of last season in the debut of Minnesota manager Eric Ramsay.

LAFC posted a 1-0 victory over Minnesota at home in the season opener.

Toronto 1, San Diego 0: Theo Corbeanu scored in the 20th minute, Sean Johnson stopped the only shot he faced and Toronto FC won at San Diego in the first-ever meeting between the clubs.

Corbeanu drew a foul in the penalty area and converted from the spot to give Toronto a 1-0 lead.

Toronto (5-11-6) won for the second time in eight games.

San Diego (13-7-3), which had won five six, leads the Western Conference with 42 points, one ahead of Vancouver.

Pablo Sisniega made his second consecutive start and had a save for San Diego. CJ Dos Santos hasn’t played since the 24-year-old goalkeeper suffered a nose injury in SDFC’s 4-3 loss to Houston on July 5.

San Diego had 67% possession and outshot Toronto 7-4 but had just one shot on target.
