Patrick Kane scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway with a minute left in overtime and the Detroit Red Wings beat the visiting Ducks 5-4 on Sunday to end their four-game winning streak.
Marco Kasper, Alex DeBrincat and Kane scored during the first 5:06 of the game, the fastest any team has scored three goals this season. J.T. Compher added a power-play goal as Detroit built a 4-1 lead.
Cutter Gauthier scored twice and Ryan Strome and Owen Zellweger also tallied for the Ducks.
Anaheim scored twice — including Gauthier’s second of the game with 53 seconds left —in the final 2:16 after pulling goaltender Lukas Dostal for an extra skater.
Kings face Vegas
The Kings have captured nine of their last 10 possible points in the standings, and will put their five-game points streak on the line against Pacific Division-leading Vegas tonight.
Vegas had won just two of 11 games before entering the 4 Nations Face-Off break with a pair of victories. They extended that string against Vancouver on Saturday.
The Kings also came out of the break with a win, defeating Utah 5-3 on Saturday.
Ovi gets hat trick
Alex Ovechkin scored his 880th, 881st and 882nd goals for a hat trick in the Capitals’ 7-3 win over the Oilers —moving 13 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record.
Calvin Pickard became the 181st goalie Ovechkin has scored on, already the most of any player after he broke Jaromir Jagr’s mark last month. His 134th game-winning goal also tied Jagr for the most in NHL history.
