Monterey, California James Buell Lindgren, an entrepreneur and real estate developer, passed away October 10, 2024. He was 94.
James, known as “Jim”, Lindgren was born September 30, 1930 to Buell Lindgren and Grace (Turner) Lindgren in Des Moines, Iowa. Jim attended Iowa State University in Ames where he earned his Bachelors of Arts in Industrial Economics in 1951. Jim served as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force from 1953-1957, stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin TX and Hiroska, Japan.
After the service, Jim worked at Kaiser Aluminum, then as head of the sales division at Applied Science Corporation of Princeton. In 1961 Jim relocated to California where he founded Lind Instruments in Mountain View.
The company made capacitors for satellites. In 1971, he moved his young family to the Monterey Peninsula and founded Lindgren Construction, which specialized in custom residential homes. Jim remained on the Peninsula for the rest of his life, living in anumber of communities including Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel, and lastly, The Park Lane of Monterey.
James Lindgren met his first wife, Joyce A. Johnson, in Palo Alto at a Young Republicans mixer in 1963. They married in December 1964 and had four children together.
Jim was an active volunteer for many organizations on the Monterey Peninsula. He was a member of the Church of the Wayfarer of Carmel for over forty years and served in many positions. Jim also supported the Boy Scouts of America (Troop 3) and coached YMCA Youth Soccer.
James Lindgren took immense pride and joy in his family.
He provided them a wonderful life and many precious memories. His wife Joyce Lindgren passed away in 1996. From his first marriage to Joyce, he is survived by four children, Kristin (Jalees Rehman), Conard (Elizabeth), Lars (Virginia), and Jason (Beth) and seven grandchildren: Abid, Habib, Zaynab, Charlotte, Otto, Owen, and Ashe.
After the death of Joyce, Jim married Sheila Moore. The couple lived happily in Carmel for 26 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends make a memorial contribution in Jim’s name to the Church of the Wayfarer, Carmel-by-the-Sea. A Memorial Service for James Lindgren will be held November 9, 2024 at 3pm at the Church of the Wayfarer, Carmel, California.
