Sophomore guard Isaiah Villalobos scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, and St. Francis High’s boys basketball team knocked off Soledad 69-61 to gain sole possession of the Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division lead Saturday.

Villalobos finished with three 3-pointers and a game-high 19 points for the Sharks (12-3, 3-0), who trailed 34-33 at the half. He also had seven rebounds and three assists.

Senor guard/forward Nash Horton had 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Senior guard Mason Borrego made a pair of 3s and scored 14 points, and junior guard Robert Gomez made three 3s and scored 11 points.

“Villalobos took the game over in the fourth quarter, and Mason Borrego played a solid game on both sides of the ball,” Sharks coach Robert Gomez said.

Senior guard Pablo Morales IV made five 3s and scored a team-high 18 points for the Aztecs (6-9, 2-1). Sophomore guard Pedro Morales Jr. made two 3s and scored 12 points.

St. Francis plays at Gonzales (4-7, 0-2) in Cypress Division action on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Oakland 55, at Santa Cruz 51, OT >> Junior forward DeMarco Hunter had 28 points, 10 rebound, and four blocks in the Cardinals’ overtime loss in nonleague action Saturday.Sophomore guard LJ Legan had 17 ponts for the Cardinals.

Santa Cruz (5-8) plays at Harbor (4-8) to open Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

Scotts Valley 56, at Woodside 48 >> Junior guard Brooklyn Williams made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points to help the Falcons win their nonleague finale Saturday.

Scotts Valley trailed 24-17 at the half.

Sophomore guard Hannah Shehorn made nine free throws, all in the second half, and scored 14 points for the Falcons (10-2). Junior guard Sammy Rebbert scored nine of her 11 points in the second half.

Freshman guard Lyla Rich made four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 16 points for the Wildcats (4-7).

Scotts Valley plays at Aptos (8-6) to open SCCAL play on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Notre Dame (San Jose) 52, at Santa Cruz 32 >> Karolina Espinosa scored seven of her team-high 11 points in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals lost in their nonleague game Saturday.

Ania Sinnott scored seven points for the Cardinals (5-8), who trailed 24-14 at the half.

Senior forward Radhika Garapaty scored 12 points to lead the Regents (5-3), the defending Central Coast Section Division III champion.

Santa Cruz plays at Harbor (1-8) to open SCCAL play on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Girls soccer

At Aptos 8, Santa Teresa 0 >> The Mariners scored twice in the first 10 minutes and finished with their highest offensive output of the season Saturday in nonleague action.

Aptos led 6-0 at the half.

Gigi Zuniga had three goals and an assist, and Isabella Hartnett and Scarlet Stateler each had two goals and an assist. Isla Gomez also scored.

Alexa Castaneda and Isabella Schenone also recorded assists.

Goalkeeper Evelyn Pini made one save to help Aptos record its fourth shutout.

Aptos (5-2-0) hosts Scotts Valley (3-3-3) to open SCCAL play on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Boys soccer

At Santa Cruz 4, Sobrato 1 >> Junior center attacking midfielder Cutler Bauscher scored three goals, and the Cardinals won their nonleague finale Saturday.

Senior center defensive midfielder Evan Richter also scored for the Cardinals, who produced all their goals in the first half. Freshman fullback William Ventura had an assist.

Sophomore goalie Steven Yee made three saves for the Cardinals (6-4-0), who open SCCAL play at Soquel on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

San Lorenzo Valley 2, at Half Moon Bay 2 >> Senior striker Evan Hiatt had a goal and an assist as the Cougars played to a draw in their nonleague match Saturday.

Hiatt scored on a pass from senior midfielder August Hughes, and assisted on senior winger Jimmy King’s goal for the equalizer.

Senior goalie Keenan Buntz made 11 saves for the Cougars.

SLV (3-2-2) host Aptos (5-3-1) in its SCCAL opener Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Women’s basketball

At UCSC 59, Simpson 53 >> Junior wing/center Jenna Gorton had 19 points and eight rebounds, and the Banana Slugs snapped its four-game losing streak on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Alyssa Jackson had 10 points and four rebounds for UCSC (6-15), and freshman forward Claire Galbo had nine points and three rebounds.

Senior forward Tessa Kinney had 22 points and three rebounds to lead the Redhawks (6-6). Junior guard Anna Marshall had 15 points, five steals, two rebounds, and two assists.

UC Santa Cruz 3, Calvin 0 >> Junior outside hitter Riley Norman had nine kills, and the Banana Slugs earned a 25-14, 25-22, 25-15 sweep at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore middle blocker Kyle Ownbey made eight kills and three blocks for UCSC (2-1). Junior setter Caio Valente made 17 assists, and sophomore setter Andrew Pak had 10 assists. Junior opposite Noy Fisher seven digs, three aces, and three blocks, and freshman outside hitter A.J. Contreras also made seven digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Brady Gudauskas had nine kills to lead the Knights (0-2) of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

UCSC 3, Mt. Union 0 >> Junior outside hitter Riley Norman had 16 kills and the Banana Slugs secured a 29-27, 25-16, 25-19 sweep at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks on Saturday night.

Dylan Foreman had 11 kills and eight digs for UCSC (3-1), and Kyle Ownbey made 10 kills. Andrew Pak made 40 assists, and Marcus Donchuanchom made 13 digs.

Aaron Armour and Michael Bowler each had six kills for the Purple Raiders (2-1) of Alliance, Ohio.

UCSC hosts Dominican (0-0) of Illinois at the West Field House on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Men’s swimming

At UCSC 203, Fresno Pacific 91 >> The Banana Slugs took first in 12 events to win their meet Saturday.

Three UCSC athletes, Michael Fusinati, Asher Kates, and Karsten Hsiao won multiple individual events.

Fusinati took first in the 500 free (4:43.80) and 1,000 free (9:44.79), Kates took first in the 100 backstroke (51.49) and 200 back (1:52.70), and Hsiao took first in the 100 breaststroke (58.43) and 200 breast (2:09.16).

Kates, Hsiao, Andrew Koika, and Kyle Reitan also took first in the 200 medley relay (1:33.59).

UCSC produced five other event winners: Reitan (50 free, 20.58); Kent Nishida (200 fly, 1:52.63); Morgan Madril (100 butterfly, 50.51); JJ Stoen (400 IM, 4:11.47), and Trevor Masters (1-meter diving, 176.93 points).

Women’s swimming

UCSC 210, Fresno Pacific 66; CSU East Bay 174, UCSC 106 >> The Banana Slugs won two events in their tri meet Saturday.

Katy Hawk took first in the 200 free (1:54.12), and Briseis Valenzuela took first in 3-meter diving with 201.15 points.
