Keith Whitaker and Fred Buckson, the Nos. 1 and 2 hitters in the lineup, combined for seven hits as the San Rafael Pacifics won their fourth consecutive game to start the season, 10-4 against the host Monterey Amberjacks on Sunday.

Whitaker had four hits, drove in a run, and scored three times for San Rafael (4-0 Pecos). Buckson had three hits, an RBI, and scored a run.

Monterey (0-4) scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull within 5-4. San Rafael responded with two runs in the seventh and eighth innings en route to the victory.

Telly Hill had two hits and a team-high three RBIs for the Pacifics. Aki Buckson drove in two runs.

San Rafael’s third consecutive win to open the season came at home against the Martinez Sturgeon (0-3) on Saturday night. Fred Buckson had three hits and Aki Buckson had three RBIs in the 10-5 victory.

San Rafael broke a 4-4 tie with a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning then broke the game open with a five-run seventh.

Prep track

Tam High’s 4×400 relay teams closed out Saturday’s competition at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions by securing a spot at State with a second-place finish.

Dexter Burnett, Cooper Hatch, Caeden Gardner, and Nate Wanger put together a time of 3 minutes, 21.92 seconds and will head to Clovis next weekend for the State Meet.

Redwood’s Annalise Horn is also State-bound following a personal record of 19 feet in the long jump, good for second place. Horn is also set to compete at State in the triple jump and on Redwood’s 4×100 relay team with Julia Bayon, Jaden Vangorder, and Jenna Beauchamp.

When the team scores were added up at the end of the competition, the Tam boys finished in third place with 28 points, behind only De La Salle (93) and El Cerrito (38). Redwood finished in ninth place with 17 points.

Redwood was the top Marin girls team at the competition, finishing with 31 points behind Pittsburg (40), St. Mary’s (36), Clayton Valley (36), Monte Vista (34), and Montgomery (32). Branson took eight place with 24 points.
