


Peyton Orradre scored twice, and the St. Francis High girls soccer team beat Anzar 2-0 in San Juan Bautista to secure the program’s first league title in sport on Monday.
Orradre, a junior forward, has scored a team-high 17 goals on the season for the Pacific Coast Athletic League Santa Lucia Division champion Sharks (10-1-1, 7-0-0).
Junior midfielder Miriam Abonce and defender Bella Valentina Vargas-Sanchez had an assist.
The Sharks have recorded six shutouts this season.
“All the credit goes to the girls who have worked so hard to make this happen, and not just the ones from this year but for many years before when we didn’t even have enough to field a team but they kept on coming out, working their butts off and giving everything they had,” Sharks coach Chris Croghan said. “I’m so proud of all the St Francis girls who have been part of this soccer program.”
Junior goalie Madison Silva made 10 saves for the Sharks, who at York in Monterey on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
St. Francis will host the runner-up finisher from the PCAL’s Mission Division in a Central Coast Section playon Feb. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
NBA G League
Up Next Game >> Santa Cruz Warriors two-way forward Jackson Rowe has been selected to participate in the 2025 NBA G League Up Next Game.
The game will be held as part of NBA All-Star 2025 at NBA Crossover in San Francisco’s Moscone Center on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
Rowe, 28, is averaging 14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals in 33.5 minutes over 24 games (all starts) with this season.
Rowe will be the fourth Warrior to represent Santa Cruz in the NBA G League Up Next Game since its debut at NBA All-Star 2023 in Salt Lake City. Other former Warriors who played in the game include forward Gui Santos (2023), guard Kendric Davis (2024), and forward Javan Johnson (2024).
Girls basketball
At Aptos 32, Harbor 16 >> Berkeley Ashby scored 20 points and shined on defense to lead the No. 3 Mariners past the No. 6 Pirates in the first round of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Tournament on Monday night.
Ashby also had eight rebounds and seven steals.
Ashby and the Mariners bounced back after being upset by the Pirates in the teams’ final SCCAL regular-season game Saturday. Ashby was held to two points in the loss.
Aptos made four 3-pointers and jumped out to a 22-4 lead at the half, which forced Harbor to switch from a 2-3 zone defense to man-to man defense. Harbor found some offensive rhythm in the second half, and outscored Aptos 10-8, but it wasn’t enough to threaten the Mariners’ lead.
Sophomore Eliya Chavez scored six points for Aptos, but exited in the second half with a sore knee.
Julianne Sanguinetti scored 10 points, had 10-plus rebounds and five blocks to lead Harbor.
The Mariners face No. 2 Santa Cruz in the tournament semifinals at Scotts Valley High on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The Pirates host Pacific Collegiate School in their season finale, senior night, on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
At Soquel 47, San Lorenzo Valley 14 >> Ana Maurer scored 14 points to lead the No. 4 Knights past the No. 5 Cougars in the first round of the SCCAL Tournament on Monday night.
Neely Pfeiffer chipped in with 10 points for the Knights.
Sophia Marello, Violet Slayer, and Jordan Berkemeyer each scored four points for the Cougars.
The Knights play at No. 1 Scotts Valley in the tournament semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
At Greenfield 42, Pajaro Valley 23 >> Freshman Elizabeth Zamora scored nine points Monday, but the Grizzlies lost their PCAL Mission Division make-up game from Feb. 3.
Karley Alvarado scored all seven of her points in the second half for the Grizzlies, who trailed 28-12 at the half.
Lesley Santiago scored 16 points to lead the Bruins (5-11, 5-6). Aleena Salas scored 12 points.
Pajaro Valley (4-16, 2-9) hosts King City (9-13 8-4) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Boys basketball
At Soquel 70, SLV 24 >> D’Rell Hopkins scored 15 points, and the No. 3 Knights rolled past the No. 6 Cougars in the first round of the SCCAL Tournament on Monday night.
Soquel played 15 players in its win.
Brayden Scoma scored 10 points to lead the Cougars.
The Knights face No. 2 Santa Cruz in the tournament semifinals at Aptos High on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
At Scotts Valley 90, Harbor 52 >> Will Shilling reached the 1,000-point career milestone, and the No. 4 Falcons beat the No. 5 Pirates in the first round of the SCCAL Tournament on Monday night.
Shilling finished with 20 points to give him 1,019 total.
Caden Kilpatrick scored 16 points for the Falcons. Taylor Knox scored 12 points, and Marlon Lipman chipped in with 10 points.
The teams were knotted at 25-all, but the Falcons went on a 21-0 run and never looked back.
The Falcons play at No. 1 Aptos in the tournament semifinals at 7 p.m.
Women’s basketball
Cabrillo 95, at Las Positas 60 >> Three players, Gabby Brooks, Sydney Chesnut, and Renee Parker, each scored 20 or more points in the Seahawks’ Coast Conference crossover game on Monday.
Brooks made two 3-pointers and scored 28 points, Chesnut made seven 3s and finished with 23 points, and Parker scored 22 points. Jade Crum chipped in with 11 points.
Sophomore Savannah Montini scored 23 points to lead Hawks (4-16) of Livermore. Sophomore Sophie Fletcher and freshman Destinee Flores each scored 12 points.
Cabrillo (17-8, 5-2) plays at Mission (14-12, 4-3) in Santa Clara on Friday on 7 p.m.
Boys soccer
Marina 3, at St. Francis 1 >> Aidan Berrelleza made three saves in the first half, and, after he went to the field, scored on a corner kick from Luis Jimenez in the Sharks’ PCAL Santa Lucia Division on Monday.
The Sharks benefitted from sophomore Colton Stevens’ return from his injury.
Sharks coach Valatin Berrelleza also credited Roger de la Torre and Vince Tovar for their play.
St. Francis (2-9-3, 2-5-3) hosts York (1-7-1, 1-7-1) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
SLV 0, at Scotts Valley 0 >> Cougars senior goalie Keenan Buntz and Falcons goalie Seamus Drees each made five saves in the teams’ scoreless SCCAL draw on Monday.
